Three of My Most Favorite Movies Ever

Movies and art are property of their respective owners.

Cirque Du Soleil’s Varekai

I got to see this live once a long while ago. It was absolutely amazing. They created this entire world on stage. This movie was very influential in my wanting to costume. I remember drawing the costumes and watching the DVD over and over and over again. This show is its own world. Incredible.

Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal

The art for this movie was done by Brian Froud, one of my favorite artists. This movie may have super cheesy dialogue, but the incredible detail in the art more than makes up for it. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it since I found it in middle school, but I still notice something new each time. Everything is magical and wonderful. It’s a believable place with almost no computerization. Someone built each and every detail and creature, and I have so much respect (and awe) for that.

Jim Henson’s Labyrinth

Art also done by Froud here.  I love it. The whole world sparkles and there are goblins and a human comes and interacts with them and every bit of it is wonderful. David Bowie is great as Jareth and I like the songs. Once again, there is so much detail in this movie that I keep on finding new things. It has continually inspired me to create my own world and dance about as a faery. The only thing I want to do with my life is create art until I am old and wrinkly and then I’ll create more art still. The only thing that would ever give me pause is the opportunity to live in this world- and do more art.
